Golf Courses are developing in Vietnam, all courses meet international standard, we are delighted to welcome all golfers from around the world to Vietnam for sightseeing and try some of the best golf courses.
These tips will help golfers having a view of golfing in Vietnam and having a guideline to plan out their memorable golf holiday.
1. The best time to book tee times is weekday, many courses have special discount on Monday and on Wednesday is also special day for women, tee time in late afternoon and under light is also cheaper, it is much more expensive on weekend and holiday
2. All courses are busy! Because of strictly policy in Vietnam, just a limited courses are built in Vietnam while numbers of golfers are developing much in Vietnam, all courses are oftens fully booked during high season and at weekends, golfers should book program in advance to ensure a smooth trip
3. All golf clubs will have rental clubs and shoes. Almost courses offer sets of brand names and good quality, price is also a bit higher. As most courses have a driving range, then it is advisable to hot some balls before you tee off.
4. Strict dress codes are applied. This means no tee shirts and proper tailored shorts are allowed; Golfers must have their own set of clubs – no sharing – and soft spike golf shoes. In case you don’t prepare then you can buy at the golf shops, as they will have a great supply of logoed shirts for sale. They will also stock golf balls, tees, gloves and golf balls.
5. The clubhouse is a great place to relax, drink and eat after your round of golf. There is nothing nicer than an ice cold drink after your game. Golf clubs have lock room for changing and taking shower, some will offer Jacuzzi and steam rooms and even a spa. The restaurants will offer local and international food at very reasonable prices.
6. The Caddies are wonderful! At Vietnam golf courses, caddies and golf carts are mandatory, so make the best use of them. Most will speak English and want you to enjoy them. Don’t forget to give them a tip at the end of the round, because their salaries are low and they rely on tips to supplement their income. A minimum of $15 is the norm and more if they have done well. They will point out hazards and other places not to hit the ball and they will be disappointed if you hit off line or miss a putt.
7. Use a reputedly company to book a golf tour, they know what they’re doing and what you need. They will guideand suggest some courses that may meet your preferences and budgets. If you book a tour then every detail is listed out for you, from tour length, all names of hotels, golf courses, transportation…to the specific times included. All you need is just to bring golf clubs and follow the schedule!

Long Thanh Golf Club & Residential Estate Description: (beautiful Ron Fream design considered the South's #1 course)
The Long Thanh Golf Club offers 36 holes of golf in the former rice paddies and scenic countryside surrounding Saigon. The Ho Chi Minh City golf course is located 30 kilometers north of the city on a bluff with unobstructed views back towards the Vietnamese capital.
Both the Hill and Lake course are well maintained throughout the year and the golf courses are a longtime favorite among locals. Many expatriates and Vietnam golf visitors prefer Long Thanh Golf Club over its more famous neighbor Vietnam Golf & Country Club.
The Hill Course features rolling fairways and large undulating greens. Large oil palms frame each hole. The Lake Course is characterized by many high lipped bunkers and water hazards on almost every hole to catch errant shots. Both courses feature Paspalum grassed fairways and tee boxes. Putting greens use Tifdwarf Bermuda grass which can roll anywhere from 8 to 10. This combination of grasses matches other top courses in the region. The rough at Long Thanh is cut relatively short and poses no real challenge.
All 36 holes have their character shape, and this wide variety makes for good challenges for both serious amateurs and professional golfers. Higher handicappers might prefer the Lake Course, however, which is relatively flatter.
Hole 13, a par-3 on the Hill Course is the signature hole and features a choice two greens equally good. Both require accurate tee shot as there is out-of-bounds over putting surface. The shorter putting area is possibly even more difficult surrounded by the 'Great Wall of Long Thanh,' with club selection being of prime importance, as there is water guarding the front and a rock face behind the green. This is a once seen never forgotten hole.
Another great hole at Long Thanh is the par-5, 14th hole on Hill Course. The longer you hit the ball, the tighter the fairway gets. If you can't reach the green in two shots, the lay-up shot requires real accuracy as there is out-of-bounds on the right and a lake on the left. There are frequently some big scores on this hole.
Both the Lake and Hill Courses are walking courses with single or shared golf carts being optional. Caddies, of whom 50% are male, are very good as most are long-standing employees at Long Thanh and some are even single handicappers themselves.
The Long Thanh Golf Club and Residential Estate have also spared no expense to build an elaborate clubhouse. The locker and changing rooms might be the plushest in Saigon. Ask for a shoe shine after your round. The pro shop is adequate, but often only stocked with a fleeing selection of merchandise. The main restaurant serves a fine selection of both Vietnamese and Western food for golfers after their rounds in both indoor and outdoor setting. It might be better however if the restaurant were more centrally located to take advantage of the excellent views of the Saigon skyline.
Vietnam Golf & Country Club is the first 36-hole golf club in Vietnam and is widely regarded as Vietnam’s Premier Golf and Country Club.
Located just 20 kilometres from the centre of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Golf and Country Club is also the nearest golf club to the city.
Set amongst 300 hectares of land, two great golf courses have been carved out of the existing woodland with minimal land movement, leaving you feel that the land was always destined to be a golf course, so natural is the lay-out and design.
The West course first opened in December 1994 and was designed by Taiwanese architect Chen King Shih. It hosted the Vietnam Open (Asian PGA Tour Event) in 1995 and 1997.
The course winds its way through the trees offering challenging tee shots to the tree lined fairways before playing to the softly contoured Bermuda TifEagle greens, which provide beautiful putting surfaces all year round.
Lee Trevino, six-time Major Champion Winner (US Open 1968,1971, USPGA Championship 1974, 1984 and The Open Championship 1971 and 1972), designed the East Course which opened in September 1997. The East Course offers more generous fairways than the West Course but is protected by well positioned bunkers, water hazards and undulating Bermuda TifDwarf greens.
Whichever course you decide to play, you will leave Vietnam Golf & Country Club with many fond memories of the golf course and the whole experience…

BRG Da Nang Golf Resort, Norman Course Description: (excellent links golf in SE Asia)
BRG Da Nang Golf Resort (Danang Golf Club), Norman Course opened in 2010 and immediately leaped to fame being recognized as one of the 15 best new courses in the world by USA GOLF magazine. Da Nang Golf Resort has achieved many awards, amongst them 2011, 2012, 2013 best golf course in Asia by the readers of Asian Golf Monthly as well as the 2012 Best Golf Course in Vietnam by USA Golf Digest and the 2014 IAGTO Diamond Award.
The Norman-designed Dunes Course uses the sandy loam soil of Danang Beach, a place with more history than golf. The Vietnam golf club is located directly on the beach that the American's used for their first landing and adjacent to the American's central supply depot and airfield used during the conflict of the 1960s. Here on Vietnam's central coast, one finds a seaside landscape almost identical to the land of the world's first courses. The links-style golf experience was crafted as much by Mother Nature as it was by any golf architect.
This Danang golf course is a unique golf challenge that every golfer will enjoy. Fairways are generous, and there is restrained use of water and no out-of-bounds. Sculpted bunkering, shaped putting greens, and abundant natural waste areas have been cut directly from the surrounding dunes. Scoring well requires carefully placed shots to give players a chance to go for the pins on the undulating greens. The fairways are also lined and well defined by long needle pines, so miss into the trees, and it's a forced punch off the sand and pine needles along a safe line to get back into play.
More so than other areas of Vietnam, the wind can play be a significant factor on the Vietnam coast. For example, the par-3 16th hole is back-dropped by the South China Sea and often plays into a stiff headwind, making club selection very tricky. The wind, when combined with the firm and fast greens, can toughen up the course considerably. Golfers accustomed to links-style golf have an advantage due to the options afforded by the soil and turf conditions that enable low running bump and runs and putting from well off the greens. Creative shot-making comes in handy on this course.
Reminiscent of both Scottish links golf and Australia sand-belt courses, Australia's Great White Shark Norman has created something unique in Vietnam.
The 4,000 square meter clubhouse and 300-yard driving range echo the course with first-class standards and service. Food offerings are some of the best in Danang, and taking in a Vietnam sunset on the rooftop lounge makes for an excellent way to reminisce about your round and plan your next Vietnam golf holiday.
