Cambodia is enigmatic, stimulating and baffling. It is where you just sit back and experience pastoral life’s rhythm, enjoy the tranquility of swaying palms, witness the worldly knowledge and peace in a monk’s face, take in the fragrant oriental aromas and wave back at the seemingly endless stretches of paddy.
Visa and entry
A visa (and passport) is required by nationals from Britain, Australia, Canada, USA and EU countries. No need to provide a proof-of-return air ticket. Visas are usually issued by your nearest Cambodian Embassy or consulate in your country or online via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:mfaic.gov.kh
Most visitors to Cambodia require a one-month tourist visa, although some visitors enter on a one-month business visa. The effective date will be on the entry date (mentioned in the approval letter). You are not allowed to enter Cambodia before the authorized date of entry. Most nationalities are eligible for a one-month visa on arrival at Phnom Penh airport or Siem Reap airport, and at land borders. This can incur an administration charge of up to US $4. Don’t forget to bring payment in US dollars and one passport photo. Please be aware that sometimes there can be long queues at the airport when obtaining a visa on arrival, but lines move fairly quickly.
Health information
You will need a certificate proof of your yellow fever vaccination: You will need as proof of the same will only be required if you have visited a country in the yellow-fever zone within the last 6 days prior to entering Southeast Asia. Medical facilities and services in Cambodia do not meet international standards. Both Siem Reap and Phnom Penh have a limited number of internationally run clinics and hospitals that can provide basic medical care. Medical care outside these two cities is almost non-existent.
Local pharmacies provide a limited prescription supplies but the quality might not be entirely reliable. It is advised to carry along an adequate supply of medications for the duration of your stay in Cambodia. For serious illnesses/injuries, Bangkok is the ideal place to seek treatment.
Cambodia:
There has been quite an explosion in golf in Cambodia in recent years. There is a huge desire to develop the tourist trade and enhance the prestige of this remarkable country.
The country is a hot destination and at its mildest in January, with temperatures for golf in the low 80’s, but move up to the mid 90’s in April. It is a monsoon climate, so carefully select your dates before booking a trip. The country is poor with a low GDP and multiple problems associated with poverty and as it emerges from the dreadful and brutal legacy of Pol Pot forty years ago.
But Cambodia is very beautiful, with much to offer the intrepid tourist, and is embracing golf. Golf is a great unifier and it is hoped that the country will gain much by encouraging visitors to some stunning courses and remarkable scenery.
Over the past decade, Cambodia has come into its own among Southeast Asia golf destinations, pairing championship-quality courses alongside the rich cultural attractions of the ancient Khmer civilisations, in addition to leisure activities and historical tours.

Nikanti Golf Club is a one-of-a-kind unique 18-hole track, situated in Nakhon Pathom province west of Bangkok. The work of Thai golf course designer and architect Piraporn Namatra of Golf East, Nikanti is revolutionary in more ways than one.
Nikanti sits in fresh air among former rice paddies. However, the Bangkok golf course is almost the complete opposite of what one usually finds around the city. For a start, it measures a short 6,850 yards from the black tees. Then there is the routing. Rather than having a traditional front and back nine, Nikanti is made up of three loops of six, each one starting and ending at the main clubhouse. Finally, each circuit comprises two par-3s, two par-4s, and two par-5s. Having an equal number of par-3, par-4 and par-5 holes is somewhat controversial, but why not? Par-72 is still on offer, and it gives golfers the chance to play a wide variety of holes through the round.
Also, more than the standard number of par-3 and par-5 hole gives golfers many more scoring opportunities than usual. However, in spite of the extra scoring holes, Nikanti is a course with a significant challenge, even for professional golfers. The fairways, while broad, feature plenty of mounding and elevation changes. Flat lies are the exception rather than the rule at Nikanti. Many of the greens, meanwhile, are strongly undulated, run fast especially downhill, and are guarded by bunker complexes. Water comes into play on many of the holes, especially on the par-5s.
Thai Country Club
Thai Country Club is a Peninsula Hotels managed prestigious member course. One of the best golf courses in Bangkok, Thai sets the standard for service excellence.
Designed to USPGA standards by Denis Griffiths, the course opened in December 1996. The design adapts to everyday member use up to very tough challenges for major international and PGA tournaments.
The 7,157-yard course was the venue for the 1997 Asian Honda Classic, where Tiger Woods cruised to a comfortable 10-stroke victory after shooting a final round of 68 for a 20 under-par total of 268 for the championship. One year later the second round of the 1998 Johnnie Walker Super Tour was also played in ideal conditions at Thai Country Club, won in style by Vijay Singh, who carded a magnificent score of 66 - two strokes ahead of Ernie Els and Jesper Parnevik. More recently Thai Country Club hosted the 2007 and 2008 Volvo Masters.
The Thai golf course as expected is well-maintained year-round, features a great variety from hole to hole, and an abundance of water hazards and sand bunkers. With its immaculate presentation and conditioning, coupled with a robust and classic parkland layout, Thai Country Club regularly voted as a Top 5 course in Asia.
Thai Country Club is a layout that requires proper course management. It's hard to imagine the terrain here was initially flat, especially when looking across the pleasantly rolling earth mounds, contoured fairways and often elevated greens. The fairway and greenside bunkering are superb, almost like a work of art. Anything wayward from the tee will usually be findable but is also likely to be sitting down in clinging semi-rough, making your next shots just that bit more difficult.
Phokeethra Country Club
The Sofitel-managed Phokeethra Country Club is one of the best courses available in Cambodia. The golf course hosted the 2009 Johnnie Walker Classic and 2010 Cambodian Open. Major renovations in 2018 have brought up the course standards to those set when first opened.
The location is perfect for Cambodia golf visitors as it is close to the Siem Reap International Airport. The course itself reflects much having to do with Cambodian culture and history. For example between the 9th green and 10th tee is a restored Roluh bridge, which is also the iconic image used in the course logo, dating back to the 11th century Khmer empire.
Bermuda and Paspalum grasses are used on the greens and fairways, respectively. The combination ensures fast rolling putting surfaces and a high standard of course conditions all year round. The new 7,363-yard layout reflects Phokeethra Country Club dedication to enhancing an exclusive golfing experience. Eight of the new 2018 greens improve playability while adding many enhancement challenges on the back nine in particular.
Sweeping fairways and generous greens still give the Cambodia golf club a distinctive layout and feel. Natural lagoons and sand bunkers thread through the course and provide challenges on every hole. The course provides a good mix of tricky par 3, individual par 4 and par 5 which require a combination of long drives and good direction control to score well. The signature double water carry 18th-hole offers a daunting final shot into a challenging island green.
Angkor Golf Resort
The world-class Faldo designed Angkor Golf Resort is the best golf course in Cambodia and by a wide margin. The six-time major winner, Nick Faldo himself, received a blessing from local monks and then opened the golf course in December 2007, his first golf course in Cambodia. The Angkor Golf Resort brings Cambodia squarely onto international golf destination map.
Tess, fairways, and greens are all maintained as what you would expect from a Faldo designed, and managed the golf course. The latest Paspalum turf ensures excellent year-round playing conditions.
The Siem Reap golf course is a fair test of golf for all players and requires thinking and strategy on every hole to score well. For example, the strategically placed bunkers and water hazards are tricky, but easily seen from each tee box. The greens have plenty of subtle undulations, and they reward and encourage a variety of approach shots. On the other hand, each holes difficulty can be moderated daily by specific pin positions, easy or challenging. Furthermore, various tee box locations allow for both low and mid-handicappers to choose the right course length for their game.
The final three holes make up some of the most challenging, but fun, holes on the Angkor Resort golf course. The par-5 16th is a 588 monster that is probably not reachable in two shots except for very long hitters. The angle of the green together with the water on the left of the hole poses a real challenge for those wishing to get their approach shots close. A cautious lay-up, away from the hazard, on the second shot will leave a tough pitch over a deep bunker to a shallow green. Hole 17 is the longest par three on the course and plays to a green guarded by water on the right side. The back pin locations, in particular, will demand a very well hit accurate tee shot.
The 440 yard par-4 finishing hole is as good as they come and will undoubtedly lead to some dramatic finishes, a Faldo signature! The slight dogleg to the left sees water running down the left side affecting both the tee shot and the approach. The best tee shot must challenge the water on the left to open up into the green.
The Angkor Resort golf course is sure to offer enjoyment for all players and will have golfers coming back time and time again. Don't miss Angkor Golf Resort's 300-meter long driving range; a great practice facility to tune up before your next round! The Angkor Golf Club is the place to play on all Cambodia golf holidays.
